Certipost Selects Surety To Power Its Trusted Seal Service

HERNDON, Va, July 8, 2003 – Surety, Inc., a leading provider of data integrity solutions, today announced that Certipost, a joint venture between the Belgian Post Group and communications leader Belgacom, has selected Surety to provide data integrity solutions. Specifically, Certipost will integrate Surety’s AbsoluteProofSM Data Integrity Service with its Trusted Seal™ service.

Certipost enables organizations to communicate electronically with any customer, supplier, citizen or partner in confidence, by streamlining information flows, automating document exchange and securing and certifying electronic communications. Using Surety’s AbsoluteProof technology, Certipost’s Trusted Seal service provides corporations and professionals with an easy-to-use, irrefutable way of verifying the origin, authenticity, authorship and creation date of electronic data without disclosing the actual contents of that data.

“With so much information being exchanged electronically these days, it is critical that electronic documents are secure and legally verifiable. Certipost is leading the way by setting the standard for validating information that is created and exchanged electronically,” said Tom Klaff, CEO of Surety. “We are pleased to partner with Certipost on a project of this magnitude. It is one of only a few select European companies to implement data integrity technology to secure electronic records and communications on such a wide scale.”

"When it comes to proving the integrity of transactions--such as sales orders and agreements— the importance of electronic methods is increasing dramatically,” said Olivier Delos, Product Development Department Manager at Certipost. “Most legislation, however, is outdated relative to electronic communications. Therefore, we must demonstrate complete trustworthiness by providing both digital signatures and Trusted Seal. Surety is our authentication partner of choice for Trusted Seal because its AbsoluteProof is the best data integrity service that offers the high quality and reliability we demand, as well as seamless compatibility with our business applications.\"

By implementing Surety’s cryptographically verifiable technology, Certipost is adding a new security element to online communications, electronic documents and e-commerce. Through the Trusted Seal service, Surety provides a digital notarization of an electronic record, without any information contained in the record being shared with Surety.

Aditel, a subsidiary of Certipost, is currently using Trusted Seal to notarize and validate electronic invoice files before archiving them. The subsidiary is accredited by the Belgian Ministry of Finance to act as a Trusted Third Party for companies that want to exchange electronic information.

Certipost plans to integrate Trusted Seal services—including Surety’s AbsoluteProof digital notarization—in all of the company’s security offerings across Belgium and Europe.
